Kentucky Football: Why Joker Phillips Had To Go - A Sea Of Blue
After much conversation, evaluation and prayer, I have determined that it is in the best interest of our athletics program to make a change in our football coaching staff at the conclusion of the season. I do so with a heavy heart for a man who has served his alma mater for almost 22 years as a player and a coach. Joker Phillips has carried the banner for the Blue and White with honor and pride. I have enjoyed working alongside him and am thankful for his friendship for the last decade. His concern for the entire program, his work and teaching of young people, his humanitarian work, and the friendship we all enjoy with him will long surpass the scoreboard. I want to thank him for all of those things on behalf of Kentucky.
NC State expected to hire former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips as WR Coach
When Phillips steps into the facility at NC State for the first time, he will be surrounded by one of the most experienced wideout rooms in recent memory, returning three two-year starters at the position. But along with that veteran presence, he'll also have an injection of young receivers just waiting to be molded into an ACC star and future NFL Draft pick. And the Wolfpack got the perfect WR coach to work with both. During each of those stops, Phillips has worn hats as head coach, offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, but has always been hands on with the wide receivers groups.
The year-old Phillips is wide receivers coach on the staff of first-year UC head coach Luke Fickell. Phillips first coached at UC two decades ago, under Rick Minter.
